I do like treating myself to a proper restaurant lunch and as well as the odd girly lunchtime get-together I?ll happily eat out on my own if I?m killing time between meetings or mid shopathon. So if like me you want a nice lunch without breaking the bank, here are my top recommendations for sit-down lunches in Leeds that come in at under a tenner per person:
Bar Room Bar, Call Lane
Bar Room Bar?s lunchtime offer is any 12? pizza, flatbread, salad or quesadilla (tortilla) and a drink for ?6.79, served every day from 12-3. It?s great value for decent sized portions of quality food in a stylish setting with friendly service. Try the crispy duck and hoisin pizza.
Bibis, Criterion Place
You can soak up Bibis? Titanic-meets-Vegas d?cor but still be in and out within your lunch hour with their Pasta Festival, which includes 25 homemade pasta dishes (a mix-and-match of five pastas and five sauces), all at just ?5.95 (drinks are extra). The deal is available Tuesday to Friday 12?2.15 and 5.30-7 and Saturday 12?5.
Spice Quarter, Electric Press building, Great George Street
Spice Quarter has one of those all-you-can-eat world buffets, but it?s done with a bit of class. There are chefs there to made your stir fry, pizza or curry to your exact specifications as well as enough starters and desserts to make it worth lingering a while longer. The dining room is airy and bright (in stark contrast to the subterranean Red Hot World Buffet round the corner) and at ?6.95 (plus drinks) at lunchtime it?s a great deal.
Arts Caf?, Call Lane http://www.artscafebar.com/
Arts seems to have been around forever and the queues for a table testify that they are as good as ever. Their Lunch Plates are basically themed cold-stuff-on-a-plate (the Fish Plate features crayfish, fishcake, smoked salmon, mackerel pate, salad and bread), but are packed with flavour, well presented, generously portioned and just ?6.95.
Jinos Thai Caf?, Otley Road, Headingley http://www.jinosthaicafe.co.uk/2.html
Jinos is ideal if you find yourself a bit further outside the city centre at lunchtime - and even if you don?t its worth a detour. Their lunchtime Combo Meal (Tuesday to Friday 11-2.30) includes an appetiser, main dish and a drink for ?6.50. Although the d?cor is a bit basic and on a busy day you might end up banging elbows with your fellow diners, the service is fast and friendly and the food is fantastic.
All details correct as of 29 July 2012, please check with the venue before you book/travel
