Persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the city will undergo training on public speaking intended to enhance their communication skills both in writing and verbal communication.
Organized by th Katipunan ng Maykapansanan sa Pilipinas, Inc. (KAMPI) in partnership with Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-9 and Regional Federation of Disabilities(RFD)-9, the 3-day training will be conducted by the Western Mindanao State University College of Communications and Humanities under Dr. Lea Usman-Laput.
The activity starts today, September 19 and will culminate Wednesday, Sept. 21 at the Hotel Perlita in Sucabon.
As a sidelight to the training, the induction of new set of officers of the RFD-9 will also be held. The officers were elected during the Regional Summit of PWDs held at the Ecozone in San Ramon from August 22-24.
To be inducted are Teddy M. Kahil, ex ? Officio President, Benjamin Sulivio of Pagadian City as Vice President; Romeo Guarzon, a DSWD-9 employee as Secretary; Elaine Jane Lumayno of Zamboanga City as Treasurer; Leonido Tinaco of Dipolog City as Auditor; Fermin Sanches of Isabela City as P.I.O.; and Board of Directors representing women with disabilities, youth with disabilities, from the three (3) provinces of Zamboanga Del Norte, Del Sur and Sibugay?Emma Acoyno, Dapitan City; Randy Poligratis, Zamboanga Del Sur; Winifredo Almrido, Zamboanga Sibugay; Randy Poligratis, Zamboanga Del Sur and Pastor Bernardo Montesor, Zamboanga del Norte; Fred Suarez; Roel Brillantes; Jojo Marginot; Cluster representatives; Gloria Malicay, women with disability representative and Lenin Jay Abad, youth with disability representative.
The induction will be presided by DSWD-9 Assistant Regional Director Zenaida Arevalo.
Expected to attend the activity are Josephine de Vera, KAMPI National President, Board of Governor from Region I and Municipal Councilor Amil Hamja of Jolo.
RFD president Kahil has appealed to his fellow PWDs to stay united and strong to ensure the effective and efficient implementation of programs for PWDs in the region through the Regional PWDs federation.
